     David Lawrence was born 1st. January, 1748. He married Abigail, daughter of Joshua and Abigail Udall Birch, 2nd January, 1777. He resided in the town of North East, Dutchess, N.Y., until about 1790, and removed to land he had purchased near the village of Stillwater, N.Y. He died 13th May, 1834 and is buried in the Baptist Churchyard a mile or two north-west of his farm.

     Mary, born 10th November, 1780, married Elijah Porter 12th March, 1801, died 2nd March, 1845
     Lionel Udall, born 24th March, 1782; married his cousin, Ann Phillips. Lived at Hudson, N.Y., died childless 30th July, 1844.
     Laura, born 9th Nov. 1784, married Conrad Cramer. Died 27th April, 1852. Left descendants. Charles C. Ormsby is a grandson, living at Waterford, N.Y.
     David R., born 11th Nov. 1789, died 21st Feb. 1768. Resided at the Stillwater farm, formerly owned by his father. Married three times: 1st Sarah Mott; 2nd. Charlotte (Bull) Bird, 3rd. Eliza Gillespie. Had two sons, William and Zebulon Mott. William married his cousin, Augusta, and had children.
     Jonathan, born 23rd March, 1795, died 1869. Had a daughter, Augusta.
     Archibald, a clergyman and married. Lived at Woodville, Mississippi in 1850. He and his wife died there during the Civil War.¹

     He bought a farm in Stillwater, one hundred and sixty acres in extent of Samuel Bryan for 500 pounds, 21st. Sept. 1790, (Saratoga County records Liber G. p. 473.) It is situated about a mile south of the headquarters of General Gates at the battle of Saratoga and commands an extended and beautiful view over the Hudson Valley. He sold it to his son, David R. Lawrence, 1 April, 1815, (R. E. records) Liber M. p. 473, for $3500 but his wife did not sign the deed. He is described in the deed from Byran as of Little Nine Partners, Dutchess County, N. Y. (North East Precinct was formerly a part of the Little Nine Partners patents.
     The house was in excellent preservation in 1907, as was his tombstone.¹

     David Lawrence was a Farmer.
     He was the second son and the third child of Uriah and Mary Clark Lawrence. He was born at North East, Dutchess County, New York, 1st January, 1748. (Uriah Lawrence's family Bible. A.B. Reed, Mansfield, Ct.)
     He married Abigail Birch, 2nd January, 1777. He served in the militia force during the American Revolution and signed the "General Association" in June, 1775. He removed to Stillwater, Saratoga County, N.Y. soon after 1790 and died there 13th May, 1834. He is buried in the Old Baptist Church, or Hicks Burying Ground, four and a half miles from Bemis Heights and three and a half miles from his old residence. The inscription on his tombstone is, "Sacred to the memory of David Lawrence who departed this live May 13th, 1834, in the 87th year of his age." (Memoranda left by his grandson, John K. Porter.)
     He deeded to his brother, Martin Lawrence, thirty acres of land in North East, 24th December, 1790. (Real estate records of Dutchess Co.,N.Y., Miber 17,p.554.).¹

I earlier took this to mean that David Lawrence died about 1758. However, since William Lawrence was defending his property from the heirs of David in 1717, David must have died earlier.--D.M.L.^2,1

          DAVID R. LAWRENCE was born at North East, Wednesday, Nov. 11th, 1789. He married Sept. 5th, 1820, Sarah, sister of Gen. John Mott and daughter of Zebulon Mott of Halfmoon, who was born Saturday, Feb. 9, 1799 and died Sunday, May 17th, 1829 aged thirty years. She is buried near Gen. Mott.
     Their son, William Lawrence, was born Sunday, March 9th, 1823. He married Augusta Lawrence in December, 1860. "Baby D", son of William and Augusta Lawrence, died Sept. 2nd, 1869, aged four months and seventeen days. Only one child living in 1877, Estella, aged fourteen now. Address Lawrence, Kansas, Box 1135."
     ZEBULON MOTT LAWRENCE was born Tuesday, Oct. 19th, 1824. His son John Porter Lawrence, was born in 1858 at Richland, Holmes Co., Mississippi.
     David R. Lawrence married, 2nd. widow Charlotte BIrd, daughter of Chauncy Bull, Saturday, March 5th, 1831. She died of bleeding at the lungs, Friday evening, June 22nd, aged forty years. She is buried beside her husband in the new cemetery at Stillwater.
     David R. Lawrence married, 3rd. Eliza Gillespie, Thursday, Feb. 28th, 1833. She was born Tuesday, Nov. 22nd, 1796 and died Oct. 20, (25th) 1869. Her mother, Eliza Gillespie, died Thursday, May 17th, 1855. Mrs. Eliza Lawrence is buried beside her husband.
     David R. Lawrence died at Stillwater, Feb. 21st, 1868, aged 78 years. He was interred in the Stillwater new cemetery a mile above the village on a part of the ground nearest the Hudson. (Visited it Sept. 4th. 1874 - J.K.P.) Inscription. "David R. Lawrence; died Feby. 21, 1868 aged 78 years, 3 months & 10 days."
     JONATHAN G. LAWRENCE was born at Stillwater, Monday, March 23rd, 1795 and died in 1869, aged 74 years. His daughter, Augusta, wife of William Lawrence, was born Tuesday, Dec. 21st 1839. She died 2:05 P.M., Wednesday, May 29th, 1926, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. M. Marshall, Monroe, La., in Riverside Cemetery.¹

     David R. Lawrence was born at North East, Dutchess County, NY, on Wednesday, 11 Nov 1789. He married Sarah, sister of Gen. John Mott and daughter of Zebulon Mott of Halfmoon, on 5 Sep 1820. Sarah Mott was born on Saturday, 9 Feb 1799, and died on Sunday, 17 May 1829, aged 30 years. She is buried near Gen. Mott.

     After inspecting the matter I have decided that Somerby's Pedigree is questionable at best in linking John Lawrence of Watertown to Henry Lawrence of Charletown. It is also doubtful that the Henry of Wisset is the same as Henry of Charlestown.
     C.E. Banks surmised that Henry Lawrence came from St. Alban's, Hertfordshire.

     In the first division of land on 'Mistick side' on 20 Apr 1638 he received five acres. (Bond's History of Watertown, p. 819.)
     In the pedigree of John Lawrence of Watertown, baptized at Wisset, England, on 8 Oct 1609 (compiled by Horatio G. Somerby) which traces back by wills to Thomas Lawrence of Rumburgh, Suffolk (will proved and dated in 1471), Henry Lawrence of Wisset is described as the father of the above named John Lawrence of Watertown "supposed to be the Henry Lawrence of Charlestown as early as 1635, died between 1638 and 1647." An analysis of dates and records shows this statement to be very doubtful; but Henry Lawrence of Charlestown may have been a son of Henry Lawrence of Wisset and a brother of John Lawrence of Watertown, though this is but a surmise. Somerby's pedigree is printed in Bond's History of Watertown, on p. 1081.^6,1,7,2,8,9
