According to Hitchin Parish records, '1617 April, the 26 day was buried Thomas Whittemore, widower, who by his will dated the 5th day of May 1613, gave £20 to Trustees for the best sort of poor people in Hitchin.'      THOMAS WHITTEMORE was a London brewer, who settled at Hitchin County Hertford after retiring from business. He had a brother William, born in 1540; and a brother Rowland, who died in 1613.      He married Sarah Deardes on 14 Apr 1623. His farm, bounded east by Chelsea and south by the Mystic River was owned by the family until 1845. It is now in the town of Everett. (Whittemore Genealogy, 1893.).¹
